The Issues

Advocate expansion of career academies…

Not everyone is destined for or chooses to attend college. Some kids just need to get their hands working. Our academies provide real-world training to help students prepare for rewarding careers straight out of high school. And when students are more engaged in school, they achieve better results.

Speak up for students and help get them needed resources…

My current job is a blessing and allows me many options to provide my children with a great education. I recognize, for various reasons, other families may have more limited options. Regardless of circumstance or location, we must provide resources where they are needed most to help our students succeed.

Employees will always have an open door with me…

In my workplace, our Open Door Policy is essential. Anyone can speak freely to any level of management without fear or consequence. It’s important to hear my associates’ concerns and advocate for them. I expect this from our school district, and it will start with me!

Support policies that give teachers the freedom to run their classrooms…

Our teachers, trained professionals, are best suited to decide how their classrooms are run. Administrators and support staff should offer coaching and support as needed. When teachers make the best decisions for their students, they can ensure a better educational experience.

Identify each community’s different needs…

Needs in Lakeland are different than needs in Lake Wales and across Polk County. I will engage with community leaders to ensure schools effectively support our students. Schools must also have greater autonomy and more flexibility and freedom from the district office.

Ask tough questions about our budget dollars to ensure that they are spent wisely…

In my current job, I oversee a multi-million-dollar operation. But I don’t have an open checkbook. I must meet many goals, control costs, and reduce waste. I will apply my experience to oversee and approve the school board budget. We must constantly improve how we spend tax dollars.

School Safety

I expect our kids to be safe at school. This begins with properly maintaining our facilities to prevent injuries, and includes securing campuses from intruders. As a parent, I want someone there trained to stop an active shooter. I support our school district’s plan to have an armed security officer at each school.

Arts Education

Arts education has long been an important part of my life. My father played piano and my mother played flute in the Army band. My sister was a ballerina growing up. I played trombone, baritone and tuba, and was Drum Major of my high school marching band. Arts education provides an array of academic and social benefits, and is an important part of our school curriculum. I support arts programs in our schools.
